High fyling Manchester City are again sending out a clear message to their competitors that money is not a problem for their ultra-rich owners as they are set to offer Belgian defender Vincent Kompany a new deal worth a reported £130,000 per week that will keep him at Etihad stadium until 2016.
This comes only days after City revealed that they are set to begin talks next month with Spanish midfielder David Silva to offer him a new contract that will make him the fourth highest paid player at the club.
Silva’s deal like Kompany’s will see him stay with City Until 2016 and net him £200,000 every week. Kompany new deal will see him move into the club’s second tier top earners a group that includes the likes of Samir Nasri, Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko and Kolo Toure.
Meanwhile, according to Mancini, fans can expect Kompany back in action within the next two weeks this is in spite of returning to full training. Kompany limped off City’s 1-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League last 16 first leg tie on Thursday.
“I hope to have Kompany back in 10 days or two weeks, but we have other solutions.” Mancini said.
City to prepare to face Swansea today in a must win fixture if they are to cement their hold on first place and inch closer towards their first title since 1968. A loss though very unlikely would spell disaster on their campaign as it would allow United (if they beat West Brom) to pip them to first place and as we all know, that is all it would take for United to successfully defend their title.
Looking at the standings, i expect this to be a tight race to the title. The real battle will be at the top between both Manchester side, while you can expect a similar display from Arsenal and Chelsea as they fight for that one last Champions League spot.
