Cavani’s Hattrick Demolished Juventus at San Paolo

Dropping points in midweek against Inter Milan, Napoli get themselves back into second place in Serie A after demolishing another Scudetto candidate, Juventus, 3-0 at San Paolo with Edinson Cavani bagging a hat-trick.

This success proved how dangerous the Partenopei this season when they are playing at their own turf especially when facing the big teams as not many managed to survive the scare that the South based team provide in their own stadium.

Both teams comes into the game with negative results as just like Napoli, Juventus also got demolished in midweek when they were trashed 4-1 in Turin by Parma and had to lost some important players for this match. The absence of Felipe Melo and Fabio Quagliarella were pretty visible as the home team managed to take control of the game right from the kick off and create some chances before finally taking the lead in the 20th minute through Cavani’s free header from Maggio’s cross.

The goal stepped makes the game interesting as moments later, Juventus were more than close in getting the equalizer as they do managed to put the ball in Napoli’s net but new signing, Luca Toni, got his goal disallowed after the referee believes the former Genoa player fouled the home team’s keeper in the process. However, that decision is surely being regretted by the Bianconeri players as just a few minute after that disallowed goal, it was the Partenopei that successfully extended their lead through Cavani’s header once again.

After the first half action closed with the home team’s 2-0 lead, the second period started in almost the same fashion although Napoli set back a bit and opted to attack more from the counter using the spaces Juventus players left. The home team’s tactic turned out successful as Cavani completed his hat-trick in the game after scoring his third header goal in the match, this time from Marek Hamsik’s cross from the right side.

This victory puts Napoli back as Ac Milan’s current threat as they are only four points away from the current league leaders, that were held into an exceting 4-4 draw against Udinese earlier on. Meanwhile, the defeat brought Juve’s title challenge evaporated a bit as they have suddenly got two straight losses just right after the winter break after going undefeated for several matches right before the short break.
