PSG Enters The Winter Break Atop Of Ligue 1

Ibra PSGIt has been a little more difficult that many fans expected, but Paris Saint-Germain will ente the Ligue 1 winter break as league leaders after beating 10-man Brest on Friday, for their fourth successive win.

PSG are three points ahead of Lyon and Marseille, but their superior goal difference of 24, compared to 13 and three respectively for their title rivals, will allow them to go into 2013 in pole position.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side will not be getting carried away by their high-flying status – 12 months ago they also led the way at Christmas only to see Montpellier take the title in May.

Wesley Sneijder Heading To PSG

Reports in France and Italy say that Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement to sign Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan in January.

Sneijder has been banished to the stands by Inter as he refuses to sign a new contract which lowers his €6m per season wages. PSG would have no problem meeting Sneijder’s current wages and reports suggest that the French side will also extend Sneijder’s contract through June 2016.

To help make the deal go through, it is also reported that PSG will send Javier Pastore on loan to Inter for the rest of the season. PSG bought Pastore from Italian side Palermo in 2011 for a reported €39.8 million, but the Argentinian has failed to impress in France.

Is Mourinho Heading To PSG This Summer?

Speculation is growing in Spain that this will be Jose Mourinho’s last season in charge of Real Madrid. Regardless of whether he wins another Champions League trophy, the feeling is that the “Special One” will be coaching elsewhere next season.

The big question is where will he go?

Mourinho has made it clear in the past that he wants to return to the Premier League, but I don’t see any openings for Mou there.

There are three sides in England that interest Mourinho: Chelsea, Man City and Man United.

Milan Beat Juve, Rafa Returns And Real Madrid Loses Again

Another interesting week of football across Europe as the title races in England and Italy took another turn, while the race in Spain appears to be between Barcelona and a team from Madrid. But this time its Atlético and not Real that are Barca’s biggest challengers.

Italy
AC Milan picked up an important victory and did their city rivals Inter a favour by beating Juventus 1-0 at the San Siro.

A Robinho penalty in the 31st minute decided the game in the Rossoneri’s favour as Juve were beaten for only the second time this season. Juve could have gone seven points clear with a win, but remain just four ahead of Fiorentina in second and Inter in third.

PSG In Crisis?

That is what Paris Saint-Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti says after the big-spending Ligue 1 club lost to Rennes at the weekend. The defeat dropped PSG to third in the league and afterwards Ancelotti blasted his side for their poor performance.

It is the way that PSG are playing that has to worry Ancelotti. Saturday’s loss, their second straight home defeat, came despite Rennes playing most of the second half with nine men and a third-choice goalkeeper

Ancelotti knows his side quickly need to raise their game ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Champions League clash against Dynamo Kiev.

PSG Chairman Sheik Al Khelaifi Vows To Keep On Spending

Really interesting interview with Paris Saint-Germain chairman Al Khelaifi in Marca today in which he basically sells they will buy the best in the world regardless of the cost. I would love to know what Uefa President Michel Platin and his Financial Fair Play group think of these comments.

P. Did you see the Spanish teams in the Champions League?
R. I saw the highlights of both Madrid and Barcelona’s matches, they are the best and my favourites. We learn from them.
