Zidane Left Reeling After Derby Thrashing

Zinedine Zidane admitted he was ‘hurt’ after Real Madrid lost a chaotic pre-season friendly 7-3 to city rivals Atletico.

Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa scored four goals and was sent off as Real were embarrassed in New Jersey.

Joao Felix, a big-money summer signing from Benfica, scored his first Atletico goal before Real made a belated comeback from 6-0 down.

‘I’m not concerned, but I’m hurt,’ Real manager Zidane said at his post-match press conference, reported on the club’s official website.

‘You don’t play to lose. But we can’t be looking backwards.

Manchester United will reportedly refuse to sell Paul Pogba after the Premier League transfer window closes on Thursday, August 8.

The Premier League side have slapped a £150million price tag on the unsettled midfielder amid interest from Juventus and Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants want to pay closer to £100m and as the La Liga window closes on September 2, United fear Real will wait in a bid to push through a cut-price deal.

But now the Mirror claim United will not sell the Frenchman at any price if Madrid try to poach him after the English deadline closes.

International Champions Cup 2019 Kicks Off Next Week

Bayern Munich’s date with Real Madrid headlines the International Champions Cup’s U.S. schedule, but there are a number on interesting matches set to take place stateside this summer.

The European giants will meet at NRG Stadium in Houston as they gear up for another lengthy season in multiple competitions. Robert Lewandowski, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, and Thomas Muller are the marquee names pending they remain with their clubs.

In addition to that match, Real Madrid’s clash with Atletico Madrid on July 26 in MetLife Stadium will be the first Madrid derby outside of Europe. Other highlights include Real Madrid vs. Arsenal and Bayern Munich vs. AC Milan.

La Liga 2019-2020 Schedule Released

The 2019-20 La Liga fixtures have been released and champions Barcelona will kick off their 2019-20 La Liga campaign against Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames Stadium on August 18.

Real Madrid will also be heading out on the road in the first round of fixtures, as they travel to Celta Vigo.

Elsewhere, Atletico take on Getafe, Espanyol host Sevilla, Valencia tackle Real Sociedad and Real Betis take on Real Valladolid.

The promoted teams play Leganés (Osasuna), Eibar (Mallorca) and Villarreal (Granada) in their first games back in the top flight.

Elsewhere, Mallorca entertain Eibar and Levante go to Alaves.

Real Madrid have been busy signing Rodrygo, Eder Militao, Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard already with Ferland Mendy poised to join Los Blancos next week.

Real will have spent over €300m on new players in June and even a side as rich and powerful as Real Madrid have to balance the books.

Zinedine Zidane’s buying spree means that he needs to generate more than €250m in player sales in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Eden Hazard from Chelsea in a deal which could rise to more than €150million.

Hazard will move to Spain for an initial fee of €100m on a five-year contract worth more than €400,000 a week, and is set to be presented as a Real player on Thursday after international duty with Belgium, subject to a medical.

Chelsea will receive additional payments depending upon a series of add-ons, some of which are understood to be basic and very achievable.
