No Upsets In FA Cup

AgueroFACupRound four of the FA Cup has gone to form with all the favorites winning, although last season’s runner-ups Manchester City needed to come from two goals down to beat Watford 4-2.

Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick in the last half hour as City escaped what would have been a Cup upset by coming from behind to win 4-2 at home to second-tier Watford.

Watford were still within sight of a money-spinning replay, but with three minutes remaining Kolarov deceived visiting goalkeeper Jonathan Bond from 40 yards to make it 3-2 before Aguero completed his treble at the death.

Chelsea Beat United To Set Up FA Cup Semi Final Showdown With City

FA Cup and MeA spectacular strike from Demba Ba saw FA Cup holders Chelsea to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in their quarter-final replay.

The Blues, who have lifted the trophy in four of the last six seasons, will now face Manchester City at Wembley in the semi-finals – with another fixture added to an already hectic April schedule for Rafa Benitez’s side.

This game took a while to warm up and it took over half an hour for the first meaningful effort on goal to be mustered, with Ba forcing David de Gea into a low stop with his feet.

Chelsea And Man United Set For Replay In FA Cup

fergievRafaIt was a game of two half’s at Old Trafford today as Manchester United and Chelsea drew in the FA Cup.

United jumped to a two-goal lead inside the opening 11 minutes but Chelsea came roaring back to earn a replay after second-half goals from Eden Hazard and Ramires. And if was not for a brilliant 90th minute save from David De Gea from Juan Mata, Chelsea fans would be toasting a remarkable comeback.

Fergie rested Robin van Persie in favor of Javier Hernandez, who has a fantastic scoring record against Chelsea. And he proved his manager made the right move when with United’s first attack they went ahead.

Wigan And Man City Heading To Wembley

WembleyFor the first time in their history, Wigan Athletic are heading to Wembley to play in the FA Cup semi-final after silencing Goodison Park by beating Everton 3-0. Joining Wigan will be Manchester City which thrashed Barnsley 5-0.

The story of the day was Roberto Martinez’s Wigan side who upset the form-book with a terrific performance today.

Wigan’s three goals arrived within a devastating four-minute spell during the first half. Shaun Maloney had already hit the post for Wigan by the time Maynor Figueroa broke the deadlock in the 30th minute, climbing to head in Jordi Gomez’s right-wing corner at the back post.

Wigan Advance In FA Cup While Brentford’s Dream Ends

Chelsea, who have won the Cup four times in the last six seasons, will travel to Championship side Middlesbrough for their delayed fifth round tie on 27 February.

Arsenal Crash Out Of FA Cup

FA Cup and MeArsenal’s disappointing season reached rock bottom today when they lost 1-0 at home to Blackburn. The Gunners dominated the contest against the Championship club and had several chances to score, but saw their way through to goal blocked by a stunning performance by Rovers goalkeeper Jake Kean.

Tomas Rosicky also hit the crossbar for the Premier League side after 67 minutes and just five minutes later Colin Kazim-Richards grabbed what proved to be the winner for the second-tier side, smashing in the rebound after Wojciech Szczesny parried Martin Olsson’s initial strike back in front of goal.

Spurs And Liverpool Dumped Out Of FA Cup

Wembley Stadium Inside Sept 2011The magic of the FA Cup is still alive as Sunday gave us more shocks and upsets as both Spurs and Liverpool were knocked out by lower division teams while Chelsea barely got a replay against Brentford.

In a weekend that saw five Premier League clubs knocked out the cup by lower league sides, the biggest shock occurred today when Oldham beat seven time cup winners Liverpool 3-2 at Boundary Park.

Aston Villa’s Miserable Week Continues

FA Cup and MeWhat a miserable week for Aston Villa. Three days ago they were knocked out the League Cup at home to second division Bradford City, and tonight they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Millwall.

Darren Bent was recalled by Lambert and opened the scoring for the Premier League strugglers, but the pressure continues to mount on Paul Lambert, as once again Villa conceded two headed goals to give Millwall a well-deserved win for Millwall.

Villa started like a team under pressure and looked nervy in possession, with Millwall only able to fire in a couple of harmless long-range efforts. Lambert’s side seemed to shake off their early worries and went ahead in the 22nd minute through Bent.

Ba Scores On Chelsea Debut And RVP Rescues United Again

New signing Demba Ba was the star of the show as his double helped FA Cup holders Chelsea come back from an early scare to beat Southampton 5-1 at St Mary’s.

The Saints went ahead early thanks to a goal from striker Jay Rodriguez, but two debut goals Ba began the comeback, with Victor Moses, Branislav Ivanovic and Frank Lampard putting the Blues one step closer to defending their title.

Robin van Persie scored in stoppage time as Manchester United remained in the FA Cup by the skin of their teeth and denied West Ham a famous win.

Chelsea To Face Liverpool In FA Cup Final

Chelsea scored 5 past fellow London side Tottenham to set up a dream FA Cup final against rivals Liverpool on the 5th of May at Wembley Stadium. Goals from Didier Drogba, Juan Mata, Ramires, Frank Lampard and Florent Malouda were enough to see off a Tottenham side that has seen their performance continue to deteriorate at the most important stage of the season.

With both Chelsea and Liverpool struggling in the league, the FA Cup offers them an opportunity to save grace and finish the season on a high. Despite the win, Juan Mata’s controversial goal was the talking point of the match.
