AS Roma kept up the pressure for 2nd spot on AC Milan after beating Palermo 4-1 yesterday in one of the only two league matches played on Saturday. The “marauding Romans”, reclaimed 2nd spot thanks to a brace from Brighi and two goals from Riise and Baptista.
Milan who had on Friday beaten Udinese 3-2 to to Pip Roma to 2nd spot will now have to turn their minds to a crucial Champions League knockout fixture against Manchester United on Tuesday. The rossoneri buoyed by the return to form of their star Ronaldinho, will be keen on securing a victory to keep them in the hunt for the only other trophy they can possibly win.
Milan will also be comforted by the fact that the have 1 game in hand thus they can eventually reduce the gap set by league leaders and fierce rivals Inter Milan (that is if they win).
Turning to the clash of the titans, Milan will be hoping that they can repeat the performance they gave when they last played United 3 years ago in the same competition. At that time, Kaka was in brilliant form for Milan and his classic goal against United at Old Trafford was and still is a masterpiece. This time however, there is no Kaka but there is a host of players who are ready to take the game to United.
Led by 2 time world player of the year Ronaldinho, Milan have what it takes to make it through to the final. In the group stage, they got an impressive away result against Real Madrid and i think this is what will inspire them to victory on Tuesday. It will definitely be a hard match but i am very confident that Milan can win it.
