Brescia Sack Giuseppe Iachini

Serie A cellar dwellers Brescia have sacked their coach Giuseppe Iachini.

The forty-six year old was responsible for sealing the club’s promotion form Serie B last season, but so far on the top tier Iachini had witnessed little success and several losses during his brief reign. And like many promoted coaches before him, the club elected to sack their manager (despite his role in getting them to the top tier) likely due to his lack of top level experience and poor results in his debut season.

If the season ended today Brescia would survive relegation, but not by much. The club is currently in 17th place and hasn’t won a single match since late September. Last weekend AC Milan embarrassed Iachini’s side 3-0 during his final match as coach and his time with the club would end the following day. Brescia’s front office left the following statement announcing their coach’s release from his role as manager:

Brescia announces with great sadness the dismissal of Giuseppe Iachini as coach of the first team. The club wishes to thank the coach for his professionalism and for having guided the club to Serie A.

We wish Iachini the best luck in the future. We will announce as soon as possible the name of his successor.

Former Siena coach Mario Beretta will replace Iachini while the club searches for his replacement. Beretta was an assistant under Iachini and has similar experience as a promoted manager with the new boys of Siena last season. No word yet on what coach has the inside track to the long-term job, but a new coach is expected to be announced as early as tomorrow morning.
