Last night’s Champions League game between Barcelona and Arsenal was much more than an entertaining fixture. Lionel Messi proved just why he is the best player in the world. Boy wonder scored an amazing 4 goals to take his tally in the competition to 8.
Barcelona now prepare to face Inter Milan in the semi final. This a repeat fixture of the matches played in the group stage. That said, the action does not stop there. Tonight Girodins Bordeaux welcome Lyon to the Stade Chaban Delmas for their return leg fixture which Lyon won 3-1.
There is no doubt that Claude Puel’s men are favourites going into this tie. Lyon should however expect a hostile crowd at Bordeaux. Lyon full back Ahly Cissokho has admitted that beating Bordeaux won’t be easy but his side has the quality to go all the way.
“It’s a difficult test,” he told France Football. “I think we have become favourites. We have a two-goal lead but it is never easy to manage these games – but we must do so to qualify.”
“A semi-final would live long in the memory, all the more so as it is a level the club has never reached.”
Bordeaux might just be in luck. With Lisandro Lopez and Sidney Govou out through suspension, Lyon won’t be a sharp as they normally are. Add that to the injuries that Cleber Anderson, Francois Clerc and Jean Makoun face and Bordeaux are once again back in the game.
We cannot forget that both teams are only separated by 1 point in France’s Ligue 1. Bordeaux therefore have to make sure their home advantage counts if they want to move on to the semi final.
