Athletic Bilbao’s run in the Europa League has been nothing less than phenomenal. The Basque based club knocked out the likes of Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon to book themselves a May 9th final date with giants Barcelona.
Iker Muniain has promised to get a tattoo should his side beat Barcelona in the final. The young Spanish striker has been in scintillating form for Bilbao scoring 5 times in 15 appearances for Bilbao.
Speaking to sports daily AS, Muniain was quoted as saying that he would tattoo the Europa League cup on his body.
“If we win I will get tattoo the Europa League cup [on my body],”
“Although it is difficult to choose, you can win the [Spanish] cup more often so [I’d rather win] the Europa League,we have been taught things that we were missing, such as the ambition to really go for games. He [Bielsa] is very excited about this team,”
Of course, this is not the only final Bilbao have qualified for, they will also take part in the Copa Del Rey final against the same opposition on May 25th. Meanwhile staying in Spain, reports doing the rounds suggest that Real Madrid duo Kaka and Gonzalo Higuain could leave the La Liga champions in the summer.
This is not the first time that such reports are emerging and as such, they should not be given too much attention. That said, Madrid’s title celebrations were not without controversy as their star player Cristiano Ronaldo took the opportunity to ‘insult’ Athletic Bilbao player Javi Martinez at the end of the match.
During the match both Ronaldo and Martinez were constantly arguing and it was later revealed that Martinez had in fact called Ronaldo a clown.
‘Don’t celebrate too much, I’m a World Cup champion and you’re not, clown.’ he said.
Its still not clear what Ronaldo said in retaliation, however videos of the pair going at at the end of the match showed that the was definitely some verbal exchange between the duo.
