It was a good weekend for AC Milan, Juventus and Roma in the Serie A as they recorded wins that boosted their titles hopes significantly. Milan beat Bari 3-2, while Juventus beat Cesena 3-1. The biggest match of the day, however, was between capital rivals Roma and Lazio.
Roma emerged victorious thanks to two second half penalties that were converted by Marco Borriello and Mirko Vucinic. This result coupled with Milan’s win in Bari left Lazio sill in control of the league albeit with a slim 2 point margin on second placed Milan.
In Turin, Juventus continued scaling the table as they defeated Cesena 3-1at the Stadio Olimpico. Club icon Alessandro Del Piero was once again on the score sheet for the Bianconeri as he cancelled out Cesena’s opener before Fabio Quagliarella and Vicenzo Iaquinta put the game out of Cesena’s reach.
Roma captain Francesco Totti who was suspended for the Giallorossi’s big match, could not hide his delight at seeing Lazio lose.
“It was a great game which Roma deserved to win,” Totti declared.
“I am delighted for Leandro Greco who made a positive entry into the game. He grew up in the Roma youth ranks and is a born and bred fan.
“Watching the game from home I was really able to enjoy this victory.
“I would like to dedicate praise to all my teammates who brought home an important win.” Totti was quoted from his official website.
The league is midway through the first half of the season and if this is anything to go by, then we might be in for one of the most competitive season’s in recent times.
