Benitez Biting More Than He Can Chew

Inter Milan’s new coach Rafa Benitez seems to be setting himself up for failure. The Spaniard has said that he is equal to his new job and  capable of bettering the amount of success  Mourinho achieved in his amazing two-year stint with Nerazzurri.

Practically i do not see how that can happen and to be honest defending their three titles next season will be easier said than done. A new coach means changing the teams style of playing which means more and more time spent by the players familiarising and adapting themselves to a new system.

Benitez has not yet even met with his players and he is already considering transfers that could unsettle the team especially in the early days of the season.

“It’s hard to improve a winning team, but we are looking at everything,”.

“Mourinho said he wasn’t stupid? I am here because I am intelligent. We can win six trophies this year. I have experience, but we have to work hard because we have tough games in August.”

If Benitez is talking about the experience that has seen him win only two major trophies in the last 5 years, then he must be really be out of his mind. Even the Nerazzurri faithful consider Benitez signing as detrimental to the club. So if the fans don’t have faith in him how does he expect to better Mourinho’s record. Can he preserve their unbeaten home streak that stretches back almost two years?

We will only know once the season officially kicks-off. As for now, its back to matters pertaining to the World Cup.
