When the news of Cesc Fabregas wanting to re-unite with his former club Barcelona started to make head-lines in the Soccer world, many of the Barcelona players were thinking that Cesc would be making the switch to the Spanish side.
However, this is not how things are looking to pan out.
With Arsene Wenger continuing to state how Cesc Fabregas is just to valuable to the club and with Cesc Fabregas’s latest statement saying that he is extremely happy with the Gunners (of course it was after a messaged from Wenger following the World Cup), it seems that some of the Barcelona players are not expecting the deal to go through.
“He is a great player that would add a lot to the team, but we have to respect that he is owned by another club that is not Barcelona, that he is an Arsenal player and, for the time being, there’s nothing to be done.” said teammate Sergio Busquets.
Although Busquets may feel this way, some Barcelona players are still hopeful that Fabregas will be able to join them.
Lionel Messi has history with Fabregas and even played with him when they were kids in Barcelona’s youth team. Messi knows that Fabregas can be a huge factor for Barcelona because he knows the club well.
“I would be delighted if he came, We played together as kids in Barca’s youth team and he knows the club.” said Messi.
However, if Arsene Wenger continues to refuse to budge with Fabregas, then Barcelona will eventually have to bow down. New Barca president Sandro Rossell already stated that he refuses to pay a large sum of money for the Arsenal captain, but if Wenger is willing to work something out than there is no doubt that Sandro will see what can be done to acquire the Spanish midfielder.
Do I see a deal being done? No.
Although when the news first started to hit the headlines, I did think that Fabregas will be on his way to La Liga but with the way that Wenger is bear-hugging Fabregas, it seems that Arsenal are simply not willing to negotiate a deal.
