Galaxy, Donovan Experience Hot Streak

A month back things were not going so great for the Los Angeles Galaxy.  The club was awaiting the late arrival of English star David Beckham, Landon Donovan was away helping the U.S. compete in the Confederations Cup, and the Galaxy were among the worst teams in the Western Conference and in the entire MLS.  It’s amazing how much can change in a single month.

The Galaxy have completely turned their season around with excellent play in the last six weeks.  The Galaxy went from being one of the worst teams in the league to currently residing in third place in the Western Conference behind Houston and Seattle.  The Galaxy got back into the mix with an excellent run beginning at the end of the month of June.  The club lost two straight matches in June (Real Salt Lake, San Jose) and have bounced back in an incredible way.  In the Galaxy’s last five matches the club has not lost once and have won four out of five of the competitions. In fact the last time the Galaxy lost a match was on June 20th.

Obviously the additions of Beckham and Donovan doesn’t hurt a squad that was need in some of talented leaders, but the two men have only been around for about half of the hot streak.  Donovan has been very helpful in his three games back since leaving for international play.  The forward has scored two goals with one assist in the last three matches and he currently is in third place in the MLS for goals (8) and assists (6).

The Galaxy, facing New England this weekend, will look to go another month without a single loss.
