Michael Ballack Has Been Ruled Out For The World Cup

Watch for the headbutt!Germany just lost its captain.  Michael Ballack played in the FA Cup final for Chelsea this weekend in a 4-0 beatdown of Portsmouth.  However, if you’ve seen the photographs, Kevin Boateng–I hate the hyphenation in his name–crushed Ballack’s foot in a pretty hideous-looking tackle while Portsmouth was getting destroyed and now Germany has no captain.

I guess the worst part is that he actually sustained an ankle injury while Boateng was stepping on his foot.  Um, ouch!

The Germans know they’re cooked–which sucks:

Barcelona, La Liga, Real Madrid

Barcelona Wins La Liga

Barcelona tapped Valladolid’s you-know-what at Camp Nou to win 4-0 and capture the Spanish Primera Division title with a record 99 points. Unfortuantely, Real Madrid didn’t make it interesting as they could only pull out a draw 1-1 against Malaga.

Barca was the favorite all year and even thought I predicted that Real Madrid would crumble they managed to keep it together until the last weekend of the season. I wouldn’t call this crumbling, but it still raises the same questions.

Chelsea Win Historic Double

Drogba FanChelsea completed the FA Cup and EPL double with a 1-0 win over Portsmouth in Portsmouth’s last hurrah before relegation.  With the EPL season over and nothing to lose one would have thought that Portsmouth might have come out pretty loose and given Chelsea a hard time and they did.  Only allowing Didier Drogba the double-clenching goal in the 1st half.

What does this mean for the future of the EPL?  Well, it means that United is really pissed.  They already gave Chelsea the regular season title and now they had to watch the blues win the FA Cup.  It kind of makes that epic final from last year seem like a distant memory–doesn’t it?

La Liga

Barca Wins La Liga!

Torres and Fabregas Named In Spain Squad

Bandera de EspañaVicente Del Bosque has put together a 30-man roster for the Spanish Nationals and it has two very important names on it:

Torres

Fabregas

That’s about all you need.  Fernando Torres and Cesc Fabregas–especially Cesc–are not in the best shape, but they were MAJOR players in the whooping Spain put on the world at UEFA 2008.  That team was all over the place.  They played the game the right way.  They put a hurting on teams that are sometimes unbelievable in retrospect.

Down To The Wire–Barca and Real Madrid

Lionel MessiBarca gets Valladolid, Madrid get Malaga.  They kickoff at the same time on Sunday and they both have the same thing in mind–the Spanish Primera Division Championship.  Who wins?

Well, if both teams win them Barca takes home the title.  If Barca draws and Madrid wins then Madrid takes home the title.  It’s win or die for Barca and they hold their destiny in their own hands.

This will show us alot–not just about Barca or Madrid–but about Argentina and Portugal.  Leo Messi pulls out a win with Barca and they win La Liga–then we can fully expect him to take that momentum into the World Cup.

How Do Championship Races Effect The World Cup?

Golden Teamgeist & World CupWith the EPL title decided–Chelsea–and La Liga set to go down this weekend–either Real Madrid or Barca–many of the World Cup squads have players in flux on league rosters and not soon after their seasons end they will need to be in camp with their World Cup squads getting ready for the monthlong tournament in South Africa.

How do these league races effect the World Cup?  Well, every guy who’s playing the World Cup and is already “out of it” will have plenty of time to rest and recuperate–plus they will have time to mentally rest and recuperate.

Ribery Turns To CAS

The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear Franck Ribery’s appeal of his suspension for the UEFA Champion’s League final after UEFA itself told him no way.

The appeal was heard by UEFA, but they found that he still deserved to be suspended so Bayern is taking the next step before the May 22nd final.  This is getting into desperation mode because if the CAS does not find in their favor then Bayern is screwed.  They honestly have no chance of winning the Champion’s League without Ribery.

Ribery In Trouble?

Hertha-Bayern 2-1Franck Ribery was already suspended for the May 22nd Champion’s League final where his Bayern Munich squad is to take on Inter Milan.  Now, there may be some really bad things going on for Ribery that will only serve to create more tension in the Bayern locker room and further Inter an edge over their German counterparts.

It appears that Ribery has been implicated in a scandal that reaches far deeper than just an affair–John Terry–or some kind of weird allegations in the media.  It appears that Franck Ribery has been implicated in a teen prostitution ring.
