As Roma’s quest for a new quality keeper seems to finally reaches its conclusion after reports in Italy suggested that the capital side are set to announce the arrival of Maarten Stekelenburg from Ajax Amsterdam.
Sky Sport Italy claimed that the Giallorossi have struck an agreement with the Dutch side for Stekelenburg’s transfer, which reportedly cost only 6 million Euro plus 1 million bonus if the player successfully helped Luis Enrique’s team reaching the Champions League zone by the end of season.
Moreover, the news also revealed that personal agreement between Roma’s management and the keeper looked set as well as a four year contract along with 1,5 million wages supposedly what Stekelenburg will earn. Should this report turns out to be true, the capital side can be considered making a very good business indeed, considering that the Ajax goalie is rumored to cost quite a lot earlier this summer as many big clubs reportedly are interested on him.
Stekelenburg’s arrival means that the Dutch international will be the number one choice for Giallorossi as the capital side have already released their goalies , Alexander Doni to Liverpool and Julio Sergio also reportedly heading for Lecce. The Ajax keeper’s signing would also gives a much more relaxing atmosphere for Roma’s fans as they might get more convinced with the project that the club’s new owner are doing as the arrivals so far mostly involved talented youngsters only.
Under the new management, Roma are looking to get very active in the transfer market this summer but most of their arrivals are merely talented youngsters, who are still doubtful considering they never played in Serie A before. That’s why Stekelenburg’s arrival could definitely be an important coup for the capital side considering that his experience playing in top flight football, notably the Champions League, would be very helpful for Luis Enrique’s side next season.
