Arsenal vs Barcelona Preview

After last night’s round of quarter final fixtures, Arsenal, Barcelona, Inter Milan and CSKA Moscow take to the pitch tonight in what is expected to be another fascinating night of football. Last night Bayern Munich beat Manchester United 2-1 at the Allianz Arena a remake of the final 11 years ago where Manchester beat Bayern with a similar score margin.

Tonight however, focus shifts to the most anticipated fixture of the quarter finals. Arsenal welcome reigning champions Barcelona to Emirates stadium. Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas remains a concern though. The Spanish international and playmaker is suffering from a leg injury that might keep him out of this crucial fixture.

Barcelona on the other hand will be without the sensational Andreas Iniesta who suffered a hamstring injury during his club’s 1-0 win over Real Mallorca on Saturday. Again, this will be a remake of yet another final.

Both these clubs met in the 2006 final where the Catalnas beat Arsenal 2-1 to lift the trophy for the second time in their history. Now things are a little bit different. Arsenal’s most prolific striker Thierry Henry will tonight don the scarlet and blue jersey of Barcelona.

Henry who scored 226 goals for the gunners stated that it will be an emotional return for him to London.

“I’m very emotional, but also staying calm,” said Henry. “It will be a strange game for me.

“Before the draw I said that I did not want to face Arsenal. That was my wish. But now that’s the game we’ve got and we’ll have to give everything.

“It’s very special. To return home is strange and even more so in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.”

Of course we cannot forget to mention the Messi factor. Messi did not feature in Barca’s 2006 triumph due to injury. However, the Argentinian international has been having a wonderful  career in the past 2 years. The reigning FIFA and European player of the year, Messi is bound to give the Arsenal defense a tough time.

It will an enthralling match and i predict another 2-1 victory in favour of Arsenal.
