Are These Africa’s Reps For The World Cup?

Wait a minute,  hold on, are these the teams that will Carry the hopes of more than 1 billion people when the attention of the sporting world turns to South Africa in June? All the teams who qualified for the world cup suffered negative results in the first week of  Africa’s premier footballing tournament the Africa Cup of Nations.

Our so called stars have been a pale shadow of themselves and most of them who consistently score goals while on club duty have been the most ineffective. Nigeria lead in this respect. The Super Eagles were thrashed 3-1 by Egypt earlier this week followed by Ivory Coast’s barren draw with Burkina Faso. Cameroon seemed to follow in their stride as they were beaten 1-0 by Gabon.

The funny thing is that with the exception of Nigeria, both Ivory Coast and Cameroon were frustrated by minor teams. I mean if Ivory Coast can’t score against Burkina Faso, how will they cope with Brazil, Portugal and South Korea? Nigeria VS Argentina, what a match that will be. I wonder how they get through the South Americans airtight midfield.

Tonight’s match will definitely rank among one of the matches of the tournament. Ivory Coast and Ghana meet in a Group B encounter that has had many talking for the past few weeks. I admit,  i will be rooting for the Elephants however, we must not forget that Ghana won 3-0 the last time this two teams met. Drogba will be looking erase those painful memories for good. That said, our reps for the world cup need to show their opponents in that event that there are no push-overs. Get serious people! Get the right message out now because you are more than capable of pulling a surprise win in the world cup.
