Carlo Ancelotti is set to take over as PSG coach after he was flown into the French capital to discuss a possible deal that would see him coach the mega rich Ligue 1 side.
The former AC Milan and Chelsea coach was among the people considered for the top job after reports arose claiming that current coach Antoine Kombouare was dismssed.
The club was quick to rubbish on the rumours and released a statement announcing that they had opened talks with Kombouare with a view to making a resolution that would protect both parties.
That 7 days ago. It is now evident that the rumours were not just rumours but actual fact. According to French daily L’Equipe and Le Parisien, Ancelotti was due to be appointed as coach after agreeing to a 2 year deal worth $9 million every season.
Head of operations at the club Pierre Octave Arrigh did indeed confirm that Ancelotti was in Paris but that he could not make any announcements as to what was discussed.
With PSG preparing to travel to Dubai for their training camp, Ancelotti is likely to join the team on Sunday. Ancelotti’s arrival is expected to drive an interest in a number of players including want away Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda, Alexander Pato and LA Galaxy star David Beckham.
Of the three, only Beckham and Malouda are likely to join as Pato has consistently pledged his loyalty to Milan. The Parisians are on top of the league and many expect them to dominate as in the days of the past thanks to their new found wealth.
Personally, i think it will take time for the French league to compete against the likes of the EPL, Serie A, La Liga and even the Bundesliga. However, with more and more top quality players joining French clubs, it could happen sooner than expected.
