Alves Blames Luck For Barcelona's Failure In Europe

Barcelona’s right back, Danni Alves believes luck was simply the one thing that getting in the way of his team’s effort against Chelsea in the Champions League semifinal.

Alves claimed that his team have more than enough chance to actually overcome the Blues’ resistance in both home and away matches, but their failure in converting those opportunities in the decided the outcome for Pep Guardiola’s boys.

Alves also give credit to Chelsea’s defensive approach which successfully stopped Barcelona’s progression into this year’s Champions League final, adding that this situation could bring a lesson for his team. The Brazilian international also admitted that his team are currently suffering a bad period and urging his teammates to stick together as it’s a common situation for any team, which will eventually pass in time.

“We had the chances to win, but we lacked the luck to go through. We tried to beat them in every possible way, but their ultra-defensive tactics proved successful. We had the opportunity to decide the tie, but we failed. We are suffering a lot at the moment, but winning and losing are both part of the job. It’s not only joy, and you go through difficult moments like this as well,” Alves said to AS.

Alves himself can also be included as one of several Barcelona players that didn’t managed to perform his full potential in both legs against Chelsea this season. The Brazilian winger looked frustrated at times, opting to make early crosses more than he usually does, making things rather easy for the Blues’ defense to coup with since Barca didn’t really have any strong center forward up front.
