A 2-0 loss to newcomers Cesena is a hard result to believe for many Milan fans (especially after their incredible signings) but it is true nonetheless. Not much was expected from Cesena but this just shows how dangerous it is underestimate your opponents.
Sitting comfortably at position 2 in the table after impressive results fromRoma and Milan, Cesena might be the surprise team in the Serie A this season. Following Milan’s loss, Allegri was at pains to explain such a humiliating result. Speaking to SkySport, this is what he said.
“It is difficult to find positives tonight, “We started brightly at the beginning of both halves. Unfortunately at this level, you simply cannot be caught on the counter-attack as we were on the second goal.
“There are no easy sides in Italian football and Cesena had already proven their worth in the opening round against Roma.
“To win and fight for titles you cannot play with the attitude we displayed out there. We must learn to fight for every ball and be prepared to sacrifice more,” he stressed.
“We were ahead of Inter a fortnight ago but in the same light we are not behind them now. Nevertheless if we don’t start playing as a team, we will struggle to get back to winning ways,”
With a crucial must win first leg fixture against French Side Auxerre in the Champions League this Wednesday, Allegri will have to find his winning formula and find it quick because Auxerre is not a club bent on just making the numbers in Group G.
With more fixtures slated for today Milan could slip further down the table should winning teams in week 1 continue in the same fashion.
