Champions Inter Milan kept the pressure on Lazio by beating Genoa 1-0 on Friday. The Nerazzurri are now second just a point below leaders Lazio who face a tricky away fixture against Palermo on Sunday. Milan on the other hand lost the opportunity to reclaim that second spot after succumbing to 2-1 home loss to Juventus yesterday.
Once again it was Ibrahimovic who spared the Rossoneri the blushes as his goal 8 minutes from time ensured the scoreline remained reasonable. So the debate rages on, was Allegri’s selection the best and how long are Milan going to rely on Ibra to keep bailing them out?
To the first question, Allegri definitely lacks the technical expertise to fashion a winning mentality despite the number of stars Milan have. Milan were without Dinho and Zambrotta for the match and their presence was dearly missed.
Allegri has failed to create a winning mentality in his squad and the substitutions he often makes show his lack of experience. You would think that with a star studded line up like they have, Milan would be the force to reckon with in all competitions but the Rossoneri still find themselves struggling to create a consistent winning pattern.
Ibrahimovic has proved that he truly deserves to start but the same cannot be said for Gattuso and Pirlo who in spite of their qualities have been showing less and less of their abilities.
So how long will Ibra continue bailing out his side? Well, until Allegri creates a side that can deliver the results. The sooner he does this, the better as Milan are definitely up for a tough season ahead.
Should they lose Wednesday’s Champions League home fixture against Madrid then their hopes of closing in on their opponents record will be pushed back another year. The alarm bells have already started ringing for Allegri and they keep growing louder with every negative result that Milan gets.
