Africa Gears Up For Continental Showpiece

From January 10th to the 31st Africa’s football loving fans will shift their focus form the European leagues that they ardently follow to catch up with their own stars live in action in the African Cup of Nations. The tournament which will take place in Angola just 6 months shy of the world cup finals in South Africa will be a huge indicator of how the African nations will perform when the kick-off whistle is blown on June the 11th.

With only a couple of weeks left to the start of the tournament, many teams are already making preparations for the event. Egypt who won the last event that was staged in Ghana, will be looking to make history by wining the title for a record 6th time. The pharaohs who missed out on qualifying for the world cup will definitely have some scores to settle when they arrive in Angola.

Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Egypt Ghana and Angola are the countries that have been tipped as the favorites to win this competition. Personally i feel that the strongest threat will come from Ghana, Cameroon and Ivory Coast. Again, these are the teams that i expect to do well in the World Cup.

There is no doubt that the Angola 2010 will be a good tournament. You only have to look at how all the nations taking part are preparing to get a slight picture just how important this tournament is to them. Whichever one of these teams wins the tournament will have the added responsibility of replicating their success in the world cup.
