Former Inter Milan striker Adriano has been left clubless after Corinthians terminated his contract. The South American giants revealed that they were forced to take such actions after the striker failed to show enough commitment towards returning to full fitness.

Adriano who’s career has been dogged by alcoholism, depression and weight problems could most likely retire after this latest setback. The 30 year old once considered the most lethal striker in the world has been reduced to a pale shadow of his former self by off field issues that have at times revealed the extent of his wild lifestyle.

Just a few months ago, Adriano was again in the headlines for shooting a female companion in his car after trying to impress her with his bodyguard’s firearm. His woes continued in February as he had his driving license suspended for refusing to take a breathalyzer test after he was stopped by police while leaving a nightclub party.

These antics coupled with the players form seemed to have pulled the last straw for Corinthians as they officially parted ways on mutual consent yesterday.

“At the end of Monday (March) 12th, the directors of the Sport Club Corinthians Paulista and the striker Adriano decided, in joint agreement, to end the work contract between the two sides, which was valid until next June,” Corinthians said in an official statement that appeared on their website.

“As a consequence, (Adriano) is dispensed from showing up tomorrow with the rest of the line-up.”

And once again Adriano joins a growing list of stars that let their egos and character get the best of them. I hope Balotelli is keenly watching what’s happening here as he to is on a similar path of destruction with his bad boy lifestyle. It definitely is sad to see such a great talent go to waste, however, Adriano has no one to blame but himself.

That said, Adriano will go down in history as part of the famous Brazil squad of 2005/2006 that entertained fans the world over.
