Team Overview: Villareal Club de Futbol is considered fairly new to the Primera Division. In fact it took the club 75 years to make it to the top tier of Spanish football. After a brief relegation, El Submarino Amarillo (the Yellow Submarine) has played nine consecutive years in the first division. The club has not disappointed either, earning a top ten finish in seven of the nine seasons, including a second place result last season.

Highest High: Villareal had a very impressive start to the 2008/2009 season. Following a draw in the season opener, the club went on to win their next five league matches. In fact, Villareal started the year with an 11 game unbeaten streak meaning they did not lose a match until November. The club also did well in the Champions League making it to the Quarter Finals before suffering a defeat to Arsenal.
Lowest Low: The club was undefeated until mid-November, but winless in all of December. The Yellow Submarine did have a tough month in the schedule losing to two of the three best clubs in the league (Barca & Sevilla), but the one point month was a main reason why the club will not be in the Champions League again next season.
Future: Once again a promising, small club has a potential superstar who is already looking ahead to bigger clubs with more dollars. This time it is Italian-American Giuseppe Rossi who hopes to transfer over to a Serie A squad by the start of next season. Rossi, the Italian international midfielder, who had a fantastic C0nfederations Cup match against his native U.S., hopes to have a new deal done soon.
