Real Madrid shocked in Copa del Rey action as they were held scoreless

Only one word describes this afternoon’s Real Madrid match against Murcia and that word is “Shocking”. Although Los Pimentoneros were lucky that Dani Hernandez had the game of his life, they will need to pray (Again) that he comes up big in the 2nd leg.

“The difference tonight was the Murcia goalkeeper, who had a fantastic night.” Mourinho went on to say after the match to Marca as he still praised his player’s performance.

“I’m happy with the team. My players worked hard and played well enough to win. “In general, the attitude towards the match was good. We wanted to win. My criticisms are usually for people who are not serious, but on this occasion, that was not the case. I’m not going to pinpoint any player because everyone wanted to do well. It is clear that there are players who did not have a great game, but we are ultimately left with this result. I have nothing to say to my team, as we controlled the match, but could not score. In the second leg, we will win for sure.”

The game was one sided throughout the game as Madrid controlled 86% possession of the ball, however, these numbers would not affect the relatively known Spanish club as they were able to hold Los Blanco’s to a 0-0 draw at the Nueva Condomina.

Although Mouinho may not agree, Madrid had an upsetting performance in the Copa del Rey, and you have to wonder what will happen with French striker – Karim Benzema. Throughout the match it seemed that young player, from former club Lyon, was struggling and with Pedro Leon all over the field, Benzema looked relatively frustrated throughout the match. However, Mourinho knows that Benzema wishes to have a place in this team so I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to start given another chance to start again in the next match.
