Beckham who had been linked with the Paris based club since late last year seems set to re-sign with Galaxy. When questioned by reporters as to whether Beckham would stay with Galaxy, this is what Al Khelaifi had to say.
“Yes, I think so. David Beckham is in Los Angeles and will stay there.
“He will not come, it’s clear.”
PSG’s sporting director and former coach of Beckham Leonardo also poured cold water on the deal saying that it would have been difficult for him to ‘begin a new adventure’ with PSG.
“We can say that it’s over. Beckham would have come, but his family made the difference. He has four children, it would have been difficult for him to leave for a new adventure.”
Meanwhile, Beckham has expressed his interest in seeing fellow England international Frank Lampard move join him in the United States. With the relationship between Lampard and coach AVB already strained, a move away from the Stamford Bridge for the midfielder would not be surprising.
In fact, reports emerging claim that Galaxy are ready to match his weekly wages of £150,000. According to Beckham, Lampard would love the lifestyle in California.
According to a source close t the club, Galaxy are prepared to add Lampard onto their list of three players who are paid over the club’s salary cap.
“Galaxy have three designated players — Beckham, Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan, who is on loan at Everton.
“However, there could be a way around the rules so Lampard could also join.”
At 36, Beckham is set to see off his career in the MLS with Galaxy. However, with Capello set to retire after the Euro’s, many have tipped Beckham to one day return to his native England as coach of the national team or in a more technical capacity.
