Milan Derby Goal Scorer Milito Dedicates Goal To Fans

Inter’s slender 1-0 victory over their city rivals Milan last night threw them back in the title race. A 65th minute goal from Diego Milito was enough to hand Claudio Ranieri’s men win the 204th edition of the Derby Della Madonnina.

Juventus who were level on points with Milan before last night’s round of fixtures also failed to make most of their match against Cagliari as they were held to a 1 all draw at the Juventus stadium.

The hero of the night Diego Milito dedicated his goal to the Inter Fans whom he thanked for being behind the team during their disappointing past couple of months.

Milito who was later interviewed by Inter’s official website could not hide his joy at having scored the game winner.

“I’m really happy, truly content,” Milito was quoted as saying.

“We’ve played a great game against a great opponent.

“We knew that it would be difficult but we have played a game of great concentration.

“It was an important test for us, for our position in the table and for morale. We’re very happy.

“To win a derby is the most beautiful thing, above all for the fans. Thanks to them, because they are always behind us. This goal is for them.”

Frankly, Milan’s loss does not surprise me. I mean after pulling a stunt like that on Pato, i am shocked they did not lose by a bigger margin. Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has since had to defend himself against rumours that he had a fall out with Pato and was the one behind the plan to offload him to PSG.

“I didn’t make the decision on Pato,” Allegri said.

“It was a club decision to keep the boy.

“But I never said that I wanted to sell Pato because Tevez would have replaced Cassano [out until the end of the season after undergoing heart surgery] and not Pato.

“I cannot tell you if Tevez could still arrive. Now we must stick together and pick up the pieces of a centre-midfield which now has fewer players seeing that [Kevin-Prince] Boateng is now suspended for the next game [against Novara].”

The league is bound to get more interesting after last night’s shock result. Though Milan are not of it yet and Inter not quite in also, both teams must ensure that they avoid any more slip ups at all costs.
