With all the talk about Christiano Ronaldo and Kaka, it seems as if Karim Benzema is often the forgotten man. But the last few weeks Benzema has adjusted to his new league and scored three goals in the last two weekends. Against Tenerife the French forward would come through with two goals and Real Madrid is still on top of the leader board right where they need to be. With Benzema heating up Real’s offense just added another dimension and at 21 years old Benzema is the perfect candidate for LLTO Best Player 21 and Under.
Sevilla may not be as explosive as Barca and Real Madrid, but who else in the world really is? Sevilla can pat themselves on the back though for their strong start to the year. Alone in third place and scoring goals at will, Sevilla seems to be a shoe-in for a top four finish and a Champions League birth next year. And did I mention they have one of the toughest defenses in the world too. Sevilla is the real deal and will be a threat all of the 2009/2010 season.
Never considered a great goal scorer, Abel Aguilar had a tremendous weekend for an unselfish midfielder. The Colombian scored twice against Getafe and lead Real Zaragoza to a critical win for the new boys. Aguilar is on transfer from Udinese and last season he nearly led Hercules from the Segundo Division to the top flight, but obviously Real Zaragoza liked what they saw from the player last year in the second tier of Spanish football.
