How Much is Lionel Messi Really Worth?

by Brian Hall

in La Liga

I have said it before and I will say it again.  Lionel Messi is flat out the best player in all of the world.  End of the discussion.

Messi brought home the first ever treble for Spain‘s La Liga and the forward won the Champions League Player & Forward of the Year awards and also the LLTO Player of the Year to name a few of the most coveted trophies in his case at home.  Messi is worth so much to Barcelona that they recently locked up the star player for nearly a decade and for nearly a franchise owning fortune.

Messi’s deal runs out in 2016 and the 250 million euros needed for a release clause likely guarantees that the forward will be around Barcelona for most of his football career.  Many have questioned this move by the champions though and are wondering if the deal is simply too long all together.

Johan Cruyff is one of these sceptics of the long deal:

I’m not in favour of long contracts and that’s what Barca signed with Messi.  I prefer renewing for three or four years. The player, whoever he is, needs a motivation to continue growing.  And I, as a club, would always look to go ahead improving something year by year if he deserves it.

Barcelona likely made the deal because of Florentino Perez’s rampant signings for rival Real Madrid this summer.  Locking up Messi means that there is one less star player on the transfer market.  Cruyff doesn’t buy into this way of thinking though:

The club did it for the old fear of in case the bogeyman came and took him away. But if he comes so what? There are many and yes they can come and they will continue to come.

There are many, but there is only one Lionel Messi.

How can anyone say he isn’t worth it? What you’ve gotta remember is, his contract is worth 250 million euros, so hyperthetically if you did have that money, that would only mean Barcelona would let you look at him. You’d then need to come up with a good amount to tempt him away from Barcelona. Come on, he’s the best player on the planet, flat out as this story says. No one is better. You can buy a world XI which includes the likes of that knob ronaldo, and whoever else is up there, and the bottom line is no one is better. His personality on the pitch in terms of just getting on with the game and not complaining is also part of the reason why he’s probably the greatest of all time. He’s a genius, and people would probably look at him as a God – a football God. I can’t think of any other words to describe him, there’s just so many. ALL HAIL LIONEL MESSI.

well, to be realistic in this matter, i like to said i love soccer but? for somebody to make this type of money only takes to have a lot losers behind of the scene, because we are paying Messi to be wealthy no one else. ok lets keeping and going with this life where anything like, fashion, music and sport will make rich the owners NOT YOU, we just watch TV and we forgot about as how important are we. But does ok mami never showed me how to love my self

Why would people say that he is not worth it? He is totally worth it. Look at his records and then put a comment. He is one of those footballers that have almost won it all, and to make it better he is young.[24 years old]. They don’t make players like Messi anymore. It’s hard to make or find a player that takes on 5,6 or 7 players and scores and ronaldo doesn’t do that.

Ronaldo will never be able to catch up on him.
