England to face Spain in Seville

by David Wilson

England’s friendly international against European champions Spain in February will be played at Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.

The game on Wednesday 11 February was initially due to be played at Madrid’s Bernabeu ground. But the Football Association opposed the venue after several England players were subjected to racist abuse during a 2004 friendly there. Buy Spain – England Tickets

The Sanchez Pizjuan stadium has a capacity of 45,500. Seville, in the south of the country, has no such history of controversies and as a major tourist attraction may be more popular with England fans.

Spain will play their World Cup qualifier against Turkey at the Bernabeu on 28 March, while the Copa del Rey final on 13 May will be held at Valencia’s Mestalla stadium to celebrate the club’s 90th anniversary. Buy Spain – England Tickets
