Chelsea And City Record Impressive Wins

Pressure eased on Chelsea coach Andres Villas-Boas at least for the next one week as his Chelsea side saw off Bolton Wanderers 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. Second half goals from David Luiz, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard gave AVB his first win in 5 matches and pushed the Blues back into 4th spot albeit momentarily should Arsenal beat Tottenham.

The win seemed to give under fire AVB some much needed confidence who rubbished talks of reports linking him with a move to struggling Serie A club Inter Milan.

“There isn’t a vacancy there [Inter] and I am not looking for a job. It makes no sense.I am fully involved in the future of Chelsea. I am looking forward to the preparation and initiation of next year’s project. There is a strong belief in the club that we can push on next year. At the moment, that talk is all speculation.”

Also winning 3-0 on the day was Manchester City. The Citizens have never really let go of their 1st place position since the turn of the year and it will be a major surprise if they fail to win their first EPL title since 1968.

Goals from Mario Balotelli, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko were enough to give Mancini  a 13th straight win at the Etihad stadium and push City 5 points clear at the top of the table.

A happy Mancini praised his boys for their solid performance urging them to replicate their impressive February form in March.

“It was difficult, they had 10 players behind the ball. If you don’t score, you can have a problem. We had a lot of chances to score. In the end it was important we won the game.”

“We had a good February (with five wins out of five) but now we need to do a good March. It is important to be there at the end of May.”

Cross town rivals Manchester United can cut the deficit back to 2 points if they pick up 3 points at Norwich later on today. United will be under a lot of pressure especially after their shock 2-1 home defeat to Ajax last Thursday in the Europa League.
