Since they arrived in MLS, Toronto FC‘s owners Maple Leaf Sports have done a great job off the field building and promoting the team. They have not done a very good job on the field, but that is a topic for another day.
But Maple Leaf Sports are now backpedaling after its ticket renewal fiasco. Toronto fans received their renewal forms in the mail and saw a 20%-30% increase iver 2010 due to the addition of four extra games next season. Read more... (320 words, 1 image, estimated 1:17 mins reading time)

Saturday the New York Red Bulls visited Toronto and it was my annual trip to with my dad to watch a TFC game. Last season we saw TFC v Real Madrid. I was looking forward to game as it would give me a chance to see Thierry Henry and Rafa Márquez play.
We arrived at BMO Field and as we got nearer the stadium we could hear the sound of the fans singing. But these were not the TFC fans. These were the 50 or so Red Bulls fans who had made the trip up for the game and their singing added tot eh atmosphere. Read more... (398 words, 2 images, estimated 1:36 mins reading time)

Toronto‘s coach Preki has said that his team still has a long way to go. I don’t buy it for one second. And I hope that this is psychological gamesmanship on his part to motivate his team. After their win over the Philadelphia Union he said:
“We had a very disappointing first half. I thought we came out and we were nervous. It almost felt like we were scared to play. Was it because we were at home, the crowd, the expectations? I don’t know. I couldn’t figure it out. In all honesty I couldn’t wait for the halftime because that was not the way we want to play. That was not the way we want to go forward.” Read more... Well it looks like Toronto FC fans will finally get to see a MLS play-off game.
The Toronto Globe & Mail is reporting that the 2010 MLS Cup will be held in Toronto on Nov. 21. This will be the first time that the MLS Cup will be played outside the United States.
The Toronto stadium is one of the best in MLS and Toronto’s owners spent over $5.5-million this off-season on various renovations, including the installation of a natural grass pitch, improved dugouts and extra seats behind the north goal. The Side: Ah yes,
Toronto FC, those commie bastards. OK, so maybe they are not actually communists, but their nickname is the “Reds”, so I – a Yank who bleeds red, white and blue (which sort of makes purple) – am inherently distrustful of them. I don’t trust this team either, even though I must admit they look quite good on paper.
Toronto took a step up last season, and now they have Preki in place to steer them to the playoffs. Well, at least they hope so.
The Pride: I don’t know Preki’s political persuasions, but I know he leans towards playing guys who have the hot hand. Which men are hoping to be so hot they have to play in oven mitts in 2010? Well, it begins and ends for TFC with DeRo, their bedreaded leader. He played well last season, and now that he has had a little time to work with these guys, I am betting he does well in 2010. I also like me some Barrett, and am partial to Marvell”ous” Wynne. Read more... (271 words, 1 image, estimated 1:05 mins reading time)

Last night I went to the Real Madrid v Toronto game at BMO Field in Toronto. The tickets were my Fathers Day gift to my dad. When I was a kid, my dad had taken me all over England to watch Coventry City and because of him I got to stand in the Kop, watch a Cup Final at Wembley and see the best players in the world play in the 60’s and 70’s.
We were both excited to add the names of Ronaldo and Kaka to the list of great players that we had seen live. This was also my first trip to BMO Field and I had heard a lot about the stadium and the fans, and was looking forward to the experience. Read more... (463 words, estimated 1:51 mins reading time)
