A fascinating look at the SeattleSounders finances from MLS Rumors . In the post Lenny Laymon calculates that the 2010 Sounders ticket revenues per game will be over $1m.
This is his breakdown:
There are approximately 22,500 Sounders inaugural season ticket holders who are paying the same price $26.65 per game as last season.
22,500 x $26.65 = $599,625.00 (call it $600k)
The Sounders have announced that they will cap season ticket sales at 32,000 in 2010, and that means they sold an additional 9,500 season tickets are an average price of $36.65..

In case you haven’t heard before, comedian and Price is Right replacement Drew Carey is a minority owner of MLS team, the SeattleSounders.
Which got the STO thinking. If Drew Carey can own a team, then why not Bob Barker? Barker does have more experience in, well, just about everything. The STO debates which host would make the better MLS owner and know when The Price is Right.
Seattle Sounders FC’s designated player Freddie Ljungberg should finally be fit enough to make his Major League Soccer debut this weekend. Ljungberg underwent hip surgery in the offseason, but joined full practices this week, and should be prepared for a role off the bench.
“I think we are going to try to play on the weekend; I think that’s the plan,” Ljungberg told mlsnet.com. “How much it will be — that’s a different question. We will play a little bit and see how it feels in a match situation. Read more...(347 words, 2 images, estimated 1:23 mins reading time)

OK. So obviously I can’t really provide you with any information about the history and traditions of the MLS team known as Seattle Sounders FC. After all, they haven’t even had their first game yet. Their squad right now is not even finalized and history tells us they will probably be bad. Real bad. But here’s what I can tell you about them.
Their majority owner is Hollywood producer Joe Roth, who has made some great films (Bachelor Party, Major League and Young Guns), but he has also subjected audiences to some terrible films (I would rather get a root canal than watch The Jerky Boys Movie again). Also, comedic actor Drew Carey of The Price is Right is a minority owner. This team is more Hollywood than the Galaxy. Read more...(262 words, 2 images, estimated 1:03 mins reading time)
The expansion SeattleSounders have acquired two-time All-Star defender Tyrone Marshall from Toronto FC for cash. The Sounders announced the deal Tuesday. It will bring the 34-year-old member of the Jamaican national team to Seattle for his 12th season in MLS.
Sounders coach Sigi Schmid says he values Marshall for his speed and his championship experience. Marshall was on the Los AngelesGalaxy’s MLS title teams in 2002 and ‘05. Los Angeles traded him to Toronto midway through the 2007 season.
This is a great addition for Seattle, who are poised to have the best season of any MLS expansion team.
The 2010 MLS Regular Season will see each team play a 30-game regular season, followed by playoffs among eight qualifying teams. The 2010 regular season will conclude Oct. 24. The MLS Cup Playoffs will culminate in the championship match, MLS Cup 2010, on Nov. 21.
It’s official. Sigi Schmid will not return as the Columbus Crew head coach in 2009. The Crew confirmed that Schmid had rejected their latest offer and the MLS coach of the year is looking for a new job.
Columbus Crew President & General Manager Mark McCullers issued the following statement on Sigi Schmid’s status as Crew head coach:
“Sigi Schmid has formally declined our last contract offer and will not be returning as head coach of the Columbus Crew. Sigi was the ideal person to turn around our competitive program and create a championship mentality within our club. As a result, we are well positioned moving forward and toward continued success. We respect his desire to seek the next challenge and wish him nothing but the best.”
