The San Jose Earthquakes shocked the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena last night to end the MLS‘s hope of a Henry v Beckham MLS Cup final.
New York went into the second leg leading 1-0 on aggregate after winning the first leg last week in San Jose. Everyone expected the Red Bulls to progress, but nobody told the Earthquakes that.
The Earthquakes got two goals from Bobby Convey, before Juan Pablo Angel, in likely his last game for the Red Bulls, tied the score on aggregate in the 78th minute, but three minutes later Chris Wondolowski send the Quakes into the MLS Eastern Conference finals where they will face the Columbus-Colorado winner. The New York Red Bulls took what their fans hope is the first step towards Toronto and the MLS Cup beating the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 in the first match of Major League Soccer’s home-and-away Eastern Conference semifinal.
Estonian midfielder Joel Lindpere goal in the 55th minute was the difference between the two sides. San Jose failed to clear a cross from Juan Pablo Angel. The ball fell to the feet of Lindpere, who carefully placed a low shot to the far post and beat goalkeeper Jon Busch. Read more... (210 words, 1 image, estimated 50 secs reading time)

It was a mixed weekend for Major League Soccer as the Seattle Sounders lost to Celtic 2-1, while the San Jose Earthquakes drew 0-0 with Spurs.
The Earthquakes versus Tottenham game was played in front of a record capacity crowd of 10,712 at Buck Shaw Stadium, and the fans saw plenty of action, if not any goals, as both teams combined for 31 shots on goal.
San Jose was by far the better team, forcing Spurs goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini to make six saves, including two in the final three minutes as Spurs looked like they were still suffering from jet lag. Read more... (212 words, 2 images, estimated 51 secs reading time)

The Side: The San Jose Earthquakes couldn’t climb very far out of the league’s basement last year and are thanking their lucky stars (all one or two of them) that there is no relegation from the top of the American soccer pyramid. The most frustrating thing about their year was that they seemed to actually take a step backward. This franchise has won a Supporters Shield and two MLS Cups, but their “hiatus” has hampered them. Sure helped Houston though! Read more... (274 words, 2 images, estimated 1:06 mins reading time)

Yes that is not a typo. The Seattle Sounders have announced that less than 1,000 season tickets remain for the 2010 season. The 18-match season-ticket package includes 15 regular season matches and three international friendlies to be played on the Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field.
“Our fans demonstrated their passion and commitment to the team by creating one of the best home field advantages in all the MLS,” said Sounders FC owner Joe Roth. “They took their match day role very seriously and renewed their season tickets at a 96 percent rate.” Read more... The San Jose Earthquakes returned to MLS last season and played pretty poorly. They had taken a two year “hiatus” during which their former players won back to back titles in Houston. While that fact would royally piss me off if I were a Quakes fan, they still have some good memories of the trophies they won during the pre-hiatus years.
The Quakes were known as the Clash for their first four seasons, but during that period the team floundered. They switched to the Earthquakes in 2000 and their results immediately improved. They won the 2001 and 2003 MLS Cups and won the Supporters Shield in 2005, which would unfortunately be their final season in San Jose. Read more... (224 words, estimated 54 secs reading time)

The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the team has signed United States National Team midfielder Bobby Convey, who was recently released by Reading.
“It is rare to be able to acquire a U.S. international in the prime of his career,” said General Manager of Soccer Operations John Doyle. “When he became available we jumped at the opportunity to add him to our team. He is a great attacking player who will make an immediate impact, and our fans will enjoy watching him.” Read more... (157 words, estimated 38 secs reading time)
