The beginning of the 2012 Major League Soccer season is right around the corner and the folks over at MLS Soccer have released their first preseason power rankings. As expected the LA Galaxy are on top, while the New England Revolution get no love, as MLS Soccer ranks them below the expansion side Montreal Impact.

Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan, Edson Buddle, Mike Magee, David Beckham … holy crap this team is going to score a lot of goals. Chances are, though, that they’ll concede a few more than in recent years thanks to the departure of Juninho and the injury to Omar Gonzalez. As if the defending MLS Champions needed any more offensive firepower, the LA Galaxy announced today that Edson Buddle would be rejoining the Galaxy after terminating his contract with FC Ingolstadt by mutual consent.

Uncertainty over England international David Beckham’s playing career is over after the 36 year old signed a new 2 year contract with Los Angeles based LA Galaxy that will see him end his career in the MLS.
There was a lot of speculation surrounding Beckham’s future after his initial contract expired at the end of last season. This led him to be linked with a number of European clubs including PSG and Tottenham.
Beckham’s statement from the club’s official website read:

Out of Contract LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham will not be joining French side PSG after all. Club President Nasser Al Khelaifi revealed that the deal had been called off.
Beckham who had been linked with the Paris based club since late last year seems set to re-sign with Galaxy. When questioned by reporters as to whether Beckham would stay with Galaxy, this is what Al Khelaifi had to say.
“Yes, I think so. David Beckham is in Los Angeles and will stay there.

Landon Donovan has agreed to join Everton on a two-month loan from MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.
The agreement, which was reached on Thursday following recent discussions between Everton, LA Galaxy and Major League Soccer, is pending paperwork that needs to be finalised.
Once that is completed, Donovan is set to join Everton over the Christmas period and would be eligible to face Bolton on January 4. The loan deal would last until after the derby against Liverpool on February 25.

Major League Soccer’s 17th season will kick off on Saturday, March 10, 2012 with six matches. First Kick presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods will continue with two games on Sunday, March 11 and one on Monday, March 12.
With an early March kick-off, Major League Soccer will have a western tilt to it in the first couple of weeks, but by the end of week 3, all but one MLS club will have played a home opener.

After leading the LA Galaxy to victory in the MLS Cup, former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham could be starting the next face of his career in Paris if talks between city club PSG and La Galaxy are fruitful.
According to PSG sporting director Leonardo who also happened to coach Beckham during his short stint with Milan confirmed that talks between the two clubs were underway.
Speaking to English daily The Sun Leonardo however maintained that the finally decision was up to Beckham.
“Yes, we’ve spoken,” Leonardo said.

Stunning development by the LA Galaxy who have signed a ten year TV contract with Time Warner for $55m. What is stunning about this deal is that the number of games to be televised each year is undetermined, as that will depend upon ESPN and NBC’s selection of games. To reword that sentence. Time Warner will pay the LA Galaxy $5m a year to televise the games that FSC, ESPN or NBC does not want to show.

It is the iconic picture that we have spent five years waiting for. David Beckham holding aloft the MLS Cup as his LA Galaxy finally won it all in what will probably be Beckham’s last game in Major League Soccer.
The Galaxy beat the Houston Dynamo 1-0 Sunday night thanks to a Landon Donovan goal. But it was not that close. The Dynamo were completely outplayed and on another night the Galaxy could have scored five or six. They dominated the game from the opening whistle with Beckham the best player on the park. What made Beckham’s performance last night even more remarkable is that he tore his hamstring in training on Tuesday. The Galaxy covered it up saying that Becks had the flu, but for to play as well as he did, on a heavy wet pitch, was a remarkable performance. Read more...
