Forbes.com recently released a report that looked at the economic side of MLS and also put a value on each of the Major League Soccer franchises.
At a macro level, things are looking up for MLS. Seven of the league’s 14 teams play in soccer-specific stadiums, five of which have been built since 2002. Expansion franchises in Seattle and Philadelphia recently agreed to pay $30 million each to join the league, three times what Toronto FC paid to join MLS three years ago. Commissioner Don Garber says the next two expansion teams, to be announced in 2009, will cost $40 million. Some team owners are even floating a $50 million price tag. Read more... Stop the presses, the Los Angeles Galaxy finally won a game! Yes, the MLS‘s flagship team ended a three month winless streak to beat D.C. United this week. This is a a look at this weekends games in Major League Soccer and how the playoff run is shaping up.
LA Galaxy 5 D.C. United 2
Landon Donovan had three goals and an assist as the Los Angeles Galaxy snapped a 12-match winless streak dating back to June 14th with a 5-2 triumph over D.C. United.

New York 4, DC United 1
Juan Pablo Angel scored two goals to lead the New York Red Bulls to a surprising 4-1 win over D.C. United on Sunday.
Sinisa Ubiparipovic added his first career MLS goal and Mike Magee also scored for the Red Bulls (6-6-7), who snapped a five-game winless streak.

Limited schedule ion Major League Soccer this weekend with the bog shock occurring on Dallas where FC Dallas hammered Beckham and the Galaxy 4-0 in front of a sell-out crowd.
FC Dallas 4, LA Galaxy 0
After going winless in MLS play since mid-June, FC Dallas finally decided enough was enough. Kenny Cooper scored twice in the first 17 minutes, Dominic Oduro scored his fifth goal of the season and Abe Thompson came off the bench to add another tally as FC Dallas blasted the Los Angeles Galaxy, 4-0, at Pizza Hut Park. The KC Wizards host the Chicago Fire tonight at 8 p.m. ET in MLS Week 18 action. The Wizards are enjoying a six-game unbeaten streak. The Fire also sport an unbeaten record from the last four games with a win and three draws. Separated by only four points in the Eastern conference standings, the Wizards could move into fourth place with a victory.
Kansas City is lead by MLS All-Star captain Jimmy Conrad. The defender has four goals and has logged 1440 minutes in the team’s 16 games. Forward Claudio Lopez has three goals and three assists. The Argentine in second on the team with a total of 1426 minutes played from 16 games. Recent addition Josh Wolff scored in his return game against the Columbus Crew. This weekend was a weekend of ties in Major League Soccer with the four games all ending up deadlocked.
New York 2 LA Galaxy 2
David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy needed a goal in extra time to tie the New York Red Bulls 2-2 on Saturday night before 46,754 fans, the largest crowd for a single Major League Soccer game this season.
It appeared as if Juan Pablo Angel’s goal in the 71st minute was going to be the game-winner for the Red Bulls. But the Galaxy’s Landon Donovan knocked in a bending shot in the 92nd minute for the game-tying score. It was his league-leading 12th goal of the season. Read more... Earthquakes 1, Colorado 1
Ryan Johnson’s second-half goal broke a long scoring drought for the last place San Jose Earthquakes, but Conor Casey scored minutes later to lift the Colorado Rapids into a 1-1 tie Saturday.
Johnson ended the Earthquake’s 281-minute scoreless run in the 62nd minute for San Jose (3-10-3), winless in six matches.
The physical and defensive match featured only two corner kicks, seven shots and six yellow cards, all in the second half. San Jose coach Frank Yallop was ejected for arguing against Casey’s goal. I turned on Sky Sports this morning and the lead headline was that the New England Revolutuon had beaten David Beckham and the L.A. Galaxy 2-1 in a battle of the top teams in MLS. I must admit, I almost fell of my chair when I saws the headline.

Adam Cristman scored two goals as the New England Revolution held on for a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Friday. Cristman opened the scoring with an unassisted tally in the 33rd minute and then doubled the advantage four minutes later with his career-high sixth goal of the season to give the Revolution a 2-0 advantage. MLS Rumors has the scoop on a potential blockbuster three-way trade between the Chicago Fire, LA Galaxy and Toronto FC.
The catalyst for the trade is U.S. star Brian McBride. McBride was last seen keeping Fulham in the Premiership and now he wants to play in Major League Soccer, specifically Chicago. The problem is that Chicago doesn’t own the rights to McBride Toronto does.
