Despite their 1-1 draw with local rivals Espanyol, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has refused to concede the La Liga title to their arch rivals Real Madrid. The Catalans now find themselves 5 points behind their arch rivals Madrid who top the standings with 43 points.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Guardiola was quoted as saying that it was still too early to give up on defending their title. It might be a little too early to think about conceding any titles, however, the truth is, it won’t be easy stopping Madrid’s momentum.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s impressive form which is seeing him lead the top scorer’s list in the Spanish La Liga, it is looking very likely that Messi will win the FIFA Ballon d’Or for a 3rd consecutive year when the gala takes places on Monday.

Ronaldo’s muted celebrations against Granada yesterday are fueling a lot of rumours that the Portuguese star could be on the verge of a break down especially with the constant comparisons to Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

Yesterday’s 4-0 thrashing of Santos was a result not many people were expecting, especially after their amazing semi final victory over Kashiwa Reysol. Many including myself were expecting Santos to put up a stiff fight if not go all the way.

However, once again Lionel Messi was the hero for the Catalans as he scored a brace to see the European champions add yet another trophy to their cabinet. Messi went on to pick up the Adidas Golden Ball as well as the Toyota award for being the best player in the tournament.

The stage is set for what will be an amazing  showdown between two of the most talked about players in the game today. In the next couple of hours, Neymar’s Santos and Messi’s Barcelona will fight it out for the honour of being called the best club in the world.

What i am going to say next might be hard to take for a few, however, it is a fact. First, both players and clubs are talented and whoever emerges the winner, will have won by right.
