A bit of a shock to me but reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona defender, Dani Alves is set to leave the Blaugrana after both sides failed to meet an agreement on a new contract. With Manchester City said to be the front-runners in signing the Brazilian right-back, it seems that Alves will be chasing the money and will be set to make a move to the Premier League.
Although Alves was hoping in signing an extension with the club, it seems that his asking price was way too high and Barca president, Sandro Rosell refused to sign the defender for the amount he is asking for.
It’s no question that Alves is a talented defender and one of the best right-backs in the world but after the club having already spent €32 million to bring him over to Camp Nou, I wonder just how much the Brazilian was asking for. Of course he should be receiving a bit of a pay bump in his pay, but with the amount having said to be extremely too much for Rosell, Alves is most likely on his way out the door.
With Guardiola having said to be happy with the way Alves has been playing with the club and his current form, it must sting the Barca coach to know that he might possibly be missing his chance in re-signing the player. Aside from Manchester City having said to be the front-runners in signing the player, Chelsea is also another possible destination as well.
Do you think that Barcelona is making a mistake in not singing Alves to a new contract? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
